Benefits of Supporting the OICF – Impact, Need, Trust

Impact:

  • Your single gift will directly benefit Oregon’s ten leading independent colleges & universities.
  • Students attending OICF colleges and universities cumulatively invest over $1 billion annually into Oregon’s economy.
  • OICF colleges and universities graduate their students with approximately 1/50th the annual taxpayer cost as our public institutions and with a four-year graduation rate twice that of our public four-year institutions (56% compared to 28%).
  • The combined budgets of the ten OICF colleges is nearly $560 million and they employ nearly 4,300 faculty and staff
  • The combined enrollment of OICF’s member institutions is over 27,000 undergraduate & graduate students, comparable to the size of one large public university.
  • OICF colleges and universities provide a tremendous boost to the region’s workforce on an annual basis through the provision of approximately 25% of all bachelor’s degrees awarded in the state.
  • Over 10,000 non resident students attend the ten OICF colleges and universities.
  • Investment in today’s students ensures quality future business and community leaders.

Need:

  • Nearly 85% of OICF students are aided by critical scholarships and grants, as well as loans, and/or campus employment, with the average financial aid package exceeding $17,000. Without this support, many of these students would be forced elsewhere.
  • Oregon’s private colleges and universities enroll a larger fraction of Oregon students who come from families earning $40,000 or less than do our public four-year institutions, who in turn enroll a larger fraction of Oregon students who come from families earning $100,000 or more.
  • The need for financial and student aid as well as scholarship dollars among the ten OICF colleges and universities has never been greater.  Students from all income ranges attend private colleges and frequently find that the total cost of their education is less than at public institutions.

Trust:

  • Since 1950, over $54 million dollars has been contributed to the OICF to benefit Oregon’s independent sector.
  • OICF staff and leadership have extensive experience administering scholarships and other foundation programs, ensuring responsible stewardship of all contributions.
  • With a dynamic Board of Trustees, which includes member college presidents and business executives, the OICF leaders are some of the region’s most visible and respected community leaders.
