MESA (Matched Educational Savings Account) College Initiative
The MESA College Initiative is a formal partnership between the OICF and the Community and Shelter Assistance Corp. of Oregon (CASA of Oregon) designed to create access and opportunity for students from all backgrounds to succeed by attending and graduating from one of Oregon’s leading independent colleges.
MESA serves Oregon’s students of households with limited financial resources especially while targeting underserved populations,(e.g., students of color, first generation students and non-native English speakers) by promoting positive financial behavior and rewarding students for their active participation and savings.
Support for the match comes from OICF (private contributions) and CASA of Oregon (federal and state grants), both of which raise funds to support this program. The OICF acknowledges the following private sector contributors to the MESA College Initiative in 2009:
- Andrea Cook
- Robert Maloney, Jr.
- Wal-Mart Foundation First Opportunity Partner Access and Success Grant administered by the Foundation for Independent Higher Education
