Career Workforce

There is a strong desire among businesses in the Northwest to attract and retain top talent from area colleges and universities. Given the small size of the individual OICF colleges, attracting corporate recruiters to these campuses can be a challenge.

Recognizing the need and benefit of collaborating as a group of small, private colleges to increase recruitment and placement of top students and graduates in internships and career opportunities throughout the region, the OICF’s Career Workforce Development program was launched in 2006.

OICF colleges and universities are deliberately small in size, permitting the active engagement of faculty to advance the learning of every student.  Collectively, the ten OICF institutions enroll more than 25,000 students (17,000 + undergraduate and 7,000 + graduate students).

Embracing a distinguishing style of undergraduate education, OICF colleges foster a broad based knowledge and understanding of the humanities, sciences, and the arts and the cultivation of critical thinking and examination, skills that lie at the heart of a liberal arts education.

In doing so, Oregon’s leading independent colleges uniquely prepare students for lives of service, achievement, leadership and personal fulfillment.

In 2008, the POWER of 10/The Oregon Private College Career Network was established to serve as a professional career network designed to strengthen and foster partnerships with business and industry to meet the talent development and acquisition needs of the 21st century economy.

Working with corporate partners and representatives from OICF member colleges, the POWER of 10/The Oregon Private College Career Network leverages OICF’s relationships with business and industry to create opportunities and venues for students, alumni and corporate partners to interact with one another in personal and intimate settings that focus on career and professional development.

The POWER of 10 uses technology to connect students, alumni, and corporate partners with great efficiency and effectiveness and is an outstanding way to remain current on employers, networking events, and other career development activities involving business and industry as well as Oregon’s leading independent college sector.
