The Oregon Independent College Foundation (OICF) held its annual Named Scholarship luncheon on Friday, February 12th at the NW Natural building.  The OICF brought together 115 corporate members and students, allowing scholarship recipients to meet and thank donors face to face. Featured speakers included Dr. David Lyon, Vice President – Chemical and Biological Sciences at Bend Research; Dr. Andrea Cook, President of Warner Pacific College; Hilda Escalera, Junior, Communication Arts major, Linfield College; and Heather Gegenhuber, Senior, Biology major, Pacific University.  Hilda is a Bank of America Scholar and is enrolled in the MESA College Initiative.  Heather is a PGE Foundation Scholar. Through the generosity of 23 corporate and foundation scholarship partners, OICF was able to provide 230 named scholarships in 2009-10, including 107 scholarships that were reserved for students from underrepresented populations, including students of color and/or those who were the first in their family to attend college.

Benefits of the Small College Experience

With an average faculty to student ratio of 12:1, OICF colleges and universities offer students a highly personalized education experience that values each student as an important member of that community. Faculty and staff are accessible and leadership opportunities abound. OICF colleges and universities represent nearly one-quarter of the total number of bachelor degrees and higher earned in Oregon annually and pride themselves on producing graduates with the requisite skills to immediately transition into Oregon’s workforce.
